On Saturday, 31 January 2026, Fort School players once again flew the flag for our school at the Seine-Saint-Denis Departmental School Chess Championship.
Held at the Jesse Owens Gymnasium in Bobigny, this tournament, approved by the French Chess Federation, brought together more than 100 young competitors from 42 primary schools in a rapid format (5 rounds in 12 minutes).

Thanks to their focus, strategy and team spirit, our 10 dedicated students helped Fort School achieve a magnificent 2nd place in the overall team rankings! This collective performance qualifies us for the academic phase of the Crรฉteil Academy School Championship, where our young talents will compete against the best teams from departments 77, 93 and 94.
This day was a wonderful opportunity for our students โ whether seasoned competitors or newcomers โ to experience the atmosphere of a championship, to measure themselves against other passionate young people, and to share a moment of conviviality around chess.
We congratulate all participants for their exemplary behaviour, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm.

Beyond the rankings, it was above all a human and educational adventure that our pupils experienced: learning to think, manage stress, respect their opponents and surpass themselves… square by square.
This success is the result of extensive work carried out at Fort School through extracurricular chess workshops and sessions organised at the CMA รchecs club in Aubervilliers, where students can train alongside experienced players. Whether seasoned competitors or newcomers, all demonstrated composure, fair play and remarkable team spirit.
Several of our students distinguished themselves in their category:
Every student contributed to this wonderful collective achievement, demonstrating that chess is both a thinking sport and a true team effort. ๐ Well done, everyone!
Below is a selection of photos illustrating the highlights of the day: intense concentration, smiles, prize-giving ceremonies and encouragement between classmates!
